- Try making extra money
Today’s Task Reading:
Today we are going to focus on not waiting for the perfect time to tackle our debt; instead we will start tackling down our debt right now! When our debt is so huge, it is so easy for us to just focus on doing the minimum, because that is what we believe we can afford to pay. So we pay the minimum, because we expect to get a big pay off in the future. However, it is not wise to wait for that big financial payoff, because we don’t know when and if it would ever happen. We could be waiting forever and under the prison of debt longer than necessary.
So that means we have to start where we are right now. We must tackle our debt right now where we are. Let’s try asking for debt forgiveness. Let’s try reducing our monthly expenses to 33% or less of our monthly income. That means we may have to be creative. We may have to find a cheaper home, get a roommate, move in with relatives, live in a more affordable city, or crash with friends when we rent our place out with Airbnb. We may have to use public transportation if our city has great public transportation system, consider walking and riding bike when possible. We may have to try visiting your community food bank and food bank affiliates if we meet income qualification, and cook at home. We may have to cut subscription services, because the $5 here and $10 there adds up. Let’s try shopping around for deals with cable, internet, insurance, and cell phones. Let’s try lower interest rates and avoid paying bank fees. Let’s try making extra money by working overtime, working part-time retail, babysitting, food delivery, drive sharing, selling our stuff, and doing surveys. Let’s write down how we will do everything in our budget. It will be a lot of work, but since it will help us tackle down our debt, it will be completely worth it.
James 2:14-17, says we must work for our faith to produce fruit. Let us create an awesome plan and work it. With God on our side we can do it. For we will not be relying on our might or our power, but by God’s Holy Spirit that will help us follow through on the plan (Zechariah 4:6).
It’s important to build a solid financial foundation for our family and if we weren’t in the equation they would be equipped and able to take care of debt payments. It’s important to be prepared in unforeseen situation.
So let us not just wait for the perfect time, because we’ll end up not building (Ecclesiastes 11:4). Yes, it’s so tempting to wait until all the risks are eliminated. However, just because risks are involved, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t act. So let’s act, because in the end the reward will be getting out of debt and keeping out of debt.
Today’s Prayer: God, You are our Father. We love You and adore You. You reign in the heavens and on earth. You are full of wisdom, knowledge and strength. Let Your glory dwell in my life. Let Your light shine all around me so that others can draw near to You. Give us this day the wisdom, knowledge and strength we need to tackle down our debt. Let us experience success when asking for debt forgiveness, reducing your monthly expenses to 33% or less of our monthly income, and making extra money. Forgive us our trespasses, sins, debt as we forgive those who sin against us, our trespassers and debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom, power and glory forever. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Today’s Scriptures: James 2:14-17, Zechariah 4:6, Ecclesiastes 11:4
James 2:14-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
Faith Without Works Is Dead
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Zechariah 4:6 New King James Version (NKJV)
6 So he answered and said to me:
“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’
Says the Lord of hosts.
