Week 5: Working Hard and Working Smart

Today’s Easy Task: Ask yourself how is your heart?  Is it free from the love of money?  As you pursue riches what’s your motivation?  Are you willing to steal, cheat, hurt to get money?

How to complete this task:

  • Complete today’s task reading
  • Pray today’s prayer
  • Read today’s scriptures
  • Check your heart as you read 1 Timothy 6:9-11

Today’s Task Reading:

Now that we know what we want in our lives in the next 5 years, we will check our heart and read 1 Timothy 6:9-11 as we work hard.  We want to work hard for the right things.  Hard work leads to profit and just talk leads to poverty (Proverbs 14:23).  So when we are actively participating in the action steps of reaching our goals, we are fulfilling a purpose.  To bring our opponents to shame, let our works be good, full of integrity, illustrate dignity and be full of wisdom (Titus 2:7-8).

It’s important to realize that we can’t wait until the conditions are perfect, before we sow our seed.  Otherwise we could starve.  So if the work we do failed us today, we shouldn’t worry, but just start over the next day.  There is a chance that we will succeed that next day and other days in the future as long as we continue to work and not give up.

Yes, the storms will come and it may ruin our seed.  We can just build again!  Yes, life can be unpredictable like the wind. However, the wind is out of our control so we should just do the best we can and remember that any action is better than no action at all.  Remember we need to connect our actions to our goals, because faith without works is dead and dreams without action become nightmares (James 2:14-22).

Ecclesiastes 10:10 says if an axe is dull we would need to exert a lot of strength to cut, but if we are working smart we should make sure that the axe is sharpen.

Today’s Prayer:  God, You are victorious.  We love You and thankful for You.  Let Your glory shine in the heavens and earth.  Give us today wisdom, knowledge and strength.  Cleanse our heart, continually fill us with Your Spirit, help us put on the whole arm of God. Help us to work hard for the right things.  Help us to work with character, model good works, be full of integrity, illustrate dignity and work wisely.  Help us to build even when life is unpredictable.  Forgive us for when we are disobedient, help us to obey You and follow Your instructions with our whole heart. Help us to forgive others.  When our enemies surround us, we will not fear because God You are our protection.  You deliver us from evil.  God You give us the victory.  Your name be lifted up forever. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Today’s Scriptures: 1 Timothy 6:9-11, Proverbs 14:23, Titus 2:7-8, James 2:14-22, Ecclesiastes 10:10

1 Timothy 6:9-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
The Good Confession
11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.

James 2:14-22 New King James Version (NKJV)
Faith Without Works Is Dead
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by [b]my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is [c]dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made [d]perfect?
